180 THINKERS – Cecil Bustamante Campbell (Prince Buster) did a couple of good 180’s which resulted in the creation of a whole new musical genre (Reggae).
Prince Buster’s big 180 was to flip the American R&B style beat to accent the off beat and give birth to SKA.
He also did a cultural 180 by doing something unheard of at the time and used Rastafarian musicians in some of his early recordings. Most people were trying to replicate the American sounds but he thought it was important to recognize the African influence. – Tim Snape, 180 Amsterdam
