Back in February 2008, six adidas athletes flew to Beijing – six months before the Olympic Games began. Why? Because as gold medal favorites they knew winning is never guaranteed. That’s why they were there in sub zero temperatures training and familiarizing themselves with the host city. 180’s Paulo Martin, Carlos Furnari and photographer Gus Powell went there to capture it. The result was GOLD IS NEVER A GIVEN, a global print campaign featuring twelve iconic executions, celebrating the start of the 2008 Olympic Games.

This year at the 10th edition of the All About Print AdPrint festival, Paulo Martins and Gus Powell won the Lurzers prize for “Best use of Photography” or rather best use of his own photography as all the images featured in the Olympics 2008 campaign “GOLD IS NEVER A GIVEN” were taken by Paulo himself. Incidentally Paulo also won the Lurzer prize for “Best use of Art Direction”. Well done Paulo!
