180 AMSTERDAM - BMW Motorrad has won a prestigious OttoCar trophy, at the 9th Grand Prix AutoVision Awards, at the International Motor-Show (IAA) in Frankfurt.
The series of digital films feature the F 650 GS and F 800 GS bikes and are filmed in Uruguay. The films use a clever combination of satellite tracking and skillful riding. Online, the ‘Unstoppable’ idea is taken to the extreme, where riders get to create their own drawings and literally draw all over the planet.
Below is a nice example of a GPS drawing called ‘COLD BEER’, by Ellesse a rider in Melbourne. See the films written by 180′s Martin and Uli and directed by Tomas Leach on YouTube.

“More importantly, the films inspired many BMW riders to get on their bikes and create their own GPS Drawings, and then upload them so that others could see their achievements and download the recommended routes. The campaign successfully illustrated the increasingly expanding ‘world of BMW’ as well as the unstoppable abilities of our enduro range.” – Tim Diehl-Thiele
180 Amsterdam’s creative director Sean Thompson collected the OttoCar trophy with BMW Motorrad’s Tim Diehl-Thiele, who commented: “We’re very proud to win this important award and pleased for the recognition it offers to the crew that travelled to South America last year and worked so hard on this project. The results from director Tomas Leach were some great, authentic documentary-style films that showed BMW riders in action, literally using the world as their canvas.”
